Dr Alexandra​ Muthu
Dr Alexandra Muthu is an Occupational & Environmental Physician. She is Clinical Lead for Occupational Health & Safety at Te Toku Tumai (ADHB). Her private practice provides specialist and advisory services for multinational corporations to small businesses. She is a certified Medical Review Officer (alcohol & drug). Alexandra worked nationally during Covid to ensure healthcare workers with vulnerability to Covid were given appropriate fitness to work advice, and workers had access to appropriate respiratory protection. She has helped lead the Occupational Health expert advisory group as they lobbied Te Whatu Ora to expand the focus from the new workforce pipeline, to actively supporting and sustaining the current workforce.
Alexandra recently completed her 6-year tenure on the RACP Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Council and the Aotearoa RACP and AFOEM Committees, as the Deputy Director of Training and on the Education Committee. She has been a Masters Course Co-ordinator, Clinical Director of Whakarongorau Aotearoa (National Telehealth Service), researcher at Mayo Clinic, and company doctor for Air New Zealand.
Alexandra believes in protecting the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health and well-being of medical professionals as outlined in the editorial in the New Zealand Medical Journal in 2019 on physician health & well-being.
